The Holy Spirit, Flylady, Mister Rogers and Me

Do you know this song that Mister Rogers sings called “What Do You Do”?

What do you do with the mad that you feel
When you feel so mad you could bite?
When the whole wide world seems oh, so wrong
And nothing you do seems very right?
What do you do?
Do you punch a bag?
Do you pound some clay or some dough?
Do you round up friends for a game of tag?
Or see how fast you go?

It’s great to be able to stop
When you’ve planned a thing that’s wrong,
And be able to do something else instead
And think this song!

I can stop when I want to
Can stop when I wish.
I can stop, stop, stop any time.
And what a good feeling to feel like this
And know that the feeling is really mine.
Know that there’s something deep inside
That helps us become what we can.
For a girl can be someday a woman.
And a boy can be someday a man.

Oh, it’s great to be able to stop!
When you’ve planned a thing that’s wrong,
And be able to do something else instead
And think this song!

I can stop when I want to
Can stop when I wish.
I can stop, stop, stop any time.
And what a good feeling to feel like this
And know that the feeling is really mine.
Know that there’s something deep inside
That helps us become what we can.
For a girl can be someday a woman
And a boy can be someday a man

I know that there’s something deep inside
That helps us become what we can…

That’s what you do!
(Music and lyrics by Fred Rogers, copyright 2005 McFeely-Rogers Foundation)

What do I do with the mad that I feel when I feel so mad I could bite? When the whole wide world seems oh, so wrong, and nothing I do seems very right? What do I do? I know that there’s Someone (the Holy Spirit) Who helps me become what I can. Yet, the mad sometimes distractingly persists.

Here is where Flylady comes in for me. Scrubbing things with gusto gets rid of some of the mad. Having some measure of control over my environment by continuing with my Flylady habits dissipates some of the anger.

Sigh. Today I am just weary of dealing with unfair, unreasonable people (and, for clarity, I would like to say that these people are NOT in my family!). At least the Holy Spirit, Mister Rogers and Flylady are here for me to help me determine what I can do with the mad.
