The Big Clothes Switch

May 31, 2010

I spent almost all day switching the kids’ clothing from winter wear to summer gear. I am tired. I am cranky. I am a poster child for why doing things 15 minutes at a time instead of in one big cram session is the better way to go.

Maybe next year….

Musical Family Fun + Spiritual Renewal = Church Music Night

May 30, 2010

Some of my favorite Family Fun involves playing music together and tonight we had a delightful opportunity to play at the church music night. It was so fun to hear everyone else’s contributions, too! Afterward, we had fun chatting and just generally being encouraged before the week starts all over again.

It was some Family Fun in the broader sense of the word “family.”

Family Fun

We had some serious Family Fun today: we opened a bakery together!

Flylady and the Bakery

May 28, 2010

Fifteen minutes (well, more than fifteen minutes, usually) at a time, day in, day out, week in, week out, Joey has prepared the bakery building. This could not have been a “cram” session. It had to be accomplished bit by bit. And he did it with the family’s support. The big kids have done so much to help. They’ve done everything from carpet removal to equipment moving to creating artwork and testing recipes. It’s just so very much like how we keep chipping away at keeping the house out of CHAOS. We just have to keep plugging away and we need everyone’s help.

And tomorrow we open the bakery! Thank the Lord!

Hot Spots, Mt. Washmore and Shiny Sink

May 27, 2010

I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but I’m still amazed. We have been so, so, so out-of-routine lately with trying to get the bakery going, taking children to doctors’ appointments, etc. that my house should really be in CHAOS. But, I’ll say it, again, it really isn’t. This floors me. I think because I am not focusing on Flylady 24/7, I must expect that the house will go to total shambles. I am NOT caught up on Zone Missions nor have I de-cluttered in recent memory, BUT I can still have someone walk in my front door right now and not be mortified.

Hot Spots

May 26, 2010

Yikes! How DID my Hot Spots get to smoldering, again? Sometimes it’s a challenge to keep nine (or, even, thirteen) other people from contributing to a Hot Spot.

My Flylady Timer Helped Me Get ‘er Done

May 25, 2010

Yesterday, I did set my timer in an effort to get stuff done. A lot of stuff. And, guess what! It worked! I know you are all so surprised to hear that. Not. (Oh, does saying, “Not,” show that I am not “up” on the current sarcastic one-word comment?)

Yes, everything on my list was done on time yesterday so we could head off to play some music an hour-and-a-half from home. That meant that my list included getting the laundry done and put away and socks folded and put away, exercising, feeding small people breakfast and lunch, getting the music together for the performance, making sure everyone was dressed appropriately (either for playing music or going to Sheree’s house), etc., etc. My timer helped me through the whole day.

And, it’s helping me today, too!

Facing Monday with Flylady

May 24, 2010

Wow. We have been so very out-of-routine lately that I’m facing another out-of-routine day (or, at least, parts of it) with a little fear and trepidation. I think I am going to go write down every routine chore and every out-of-routine chore and responsibility for this week and see how my timer can help me out of this Monday morning dilemma.

At least my timer should eliminate the fear and trepidation.

Fifteen Minutes at a Time

May 23, 2010

I have been reading Dave Ramsey’s book on financial peace. One point he keeps making is to plan to “get rich slowly” by saving a little over time. No “get rich quick” schemes will ever work.

Sound like something Flylady would say….

Flylady and The Kids

May 22, 2010

With so many days this week consumed with doctors’ appointments and bakery business preparation, my kitchen should be in shambles. But it is NOT! And do you know why? I suddenly realized today that the KIDS have really been pulling their Flylady weight around here. They have been doing their regular Flylady responsibilities even though we have been out of routine so much.

Thank the Lord!
