Top Ten Countdown: Number Nine

August 22, 2010

Number Nine (I feel like I should be singing a Beatles song every time I write that…) on my list of the Top Ten Things I’ve Learned in 365 Days with Flylady is:

I no longer live in CHAOS so I can now be hospitable without stress.

I like living without Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome. Hospitality is not my gift at all, and living in CHAOS made it hugely stressful to have anyone over. Yet, I love people and sitting around talking with them, so I want to be able to have people over.

In the past year, our son-in-law lived with us, I hosted a weekly Bible study, we had numerous wedding guests staying with us, Jacob had Lisa Leady over for supper, the Georgeffs spent the night a few times, we had umpteen birthday parties, we hosted the family Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, my college roommate came over and, every single week, (for the most part), Anne’s physical therapist was at our house.

While hospitality will probably never come naturally to me, living without CHAOS has made it much easier to have people over and build relationships.

Tomorrow I’m hoping to start a countdown of the Top Ten Things I’ve Learned in 365 Days with Flylady. Stay tuned….

The Year in Review

August 19, 2010

Today, I started reading through my old blog posts in anticipation of summing it all up. It’s amazing how many things have changed…and how many have stayed the same.

Favorite Post?

August 17, 2010

As I’m getting ready to wind down this blog (as far as contributing to it every, single day), I’m wondering if any of you have a favorite post?

Anti-4-H-Procrastination Day

August 6, 2010

I cannot even believe what I did today. I actually took the 4-H projects that are going to state fair into the Extension Office NINETEEN days before I HAD to. Can you believe it??

The Fair and Flylady

August 3, 2010

We have been out of the house for two days participating in the county fair. It’s amazing how clean my house has remained. Hmm….

De-cluttering and Creativity

August 1, 2010

Since we got the craft room cleaned up after 4-H projects, I have found myself feeling very inspired. In fact, I sewed something the other day. Charlotte had picked out some Hello Kitty fabric when the older kids were getting fabric for their 4-H projects. I told her we would sew something when the 4-H projects were done. She picked out a nightgown pattern and there the fabric and pattern sat, waiting for us.

Well, because the sewing machines were all cleared off and running (although mine, not so well…it seems to have come back from the 4-H sewing camp with some mysterious issues) and the cutting table was entirely cleared off, we just whipped up that nightgown in a jiffy. It actually turned out to be more like a pajama top, but she was happy and I was happy.

I’m remaining motivated to keep de-cluttering, I think.

Things to Say, But Too Tired to Say Them

July 18, 2010

I have things to say about another novel I finished reading and how getting ready to attend a high school reunion prompts me to deal even more with my perfectionism and how spending time helping the kids with 4-H projects means that I am not getting my Hot Spots attended to (and when do Hot Spots become more important than my kids’ 4-H projects, anyway?), BUT…I am too tired to talk about those things right now, so it will all have to wait.

P.S. Twenty-eight years ago today, I married a man whose love language is acts of service. He is one big reason that I connected with Flylady in the first place. To him, a shiny sink = love. Happy Anniversary, dear!

Late Night Family Fun

July 16, 2010

We had the BIG treat of seeing “The King and I” tonight! Everyone–including one-week-old sweet baby granddaughter–attended and it was a lot of fun. However, it is now very late. Good night!

No Flylady Chores Today: I Just Became A Grandmother!

July 9, 2010

I have a sweet, new granddaughter as of 3:33 am, thanks to our oldest daughter, Amelia, and her husband, Stephen!
